Welcome to The Male Health Centres. We are a group of physicians who share an interest in providing patients with information and treatment for erectile dysfunction and prostate disease.

Our staff is trained to help you obtain as much information as you need to make a decision on appropriate treatment.

All our sites participate in clinical research projects and we can often offer you options that your physician might not have access to.

We want your feedback and will answer your questions. Our physicians learn from their patients too!

Also, to book an appointment, look up our listing of locations and phone the clinic nearest you, or send us an e-mail.

What's New

Prostate and Nutrition
There is increasing evidence in the medical literature that nutritional alterations may impact on one's risk of developing prostate cancer. While it may take awhile before there is good scientific proof, I don't think that a few dietary changes can be harmful and, even if they don't reduce your risk of developing or dying from prostate cancer, you'll probably look and feel better.

Prevalence studies have demonstrated that Asian (Japanese) men have a significantly lower rate of clinical prostate cancer. If these men immigrate to areas where the fat content of the local diet is high, their incidence of prostate cancer increases (but not to the same level as the natives!). Their children have the same incidence as the locals. This suggests that the dietary fat content has a major influence in their rate of prostate disease.

Also, Vitamin E supplementation has been shown in population studies to reduce the prevalence of clinically evident prostate cancer and has almost the same effect as changing to a low fat diet. (Thank goodness, I like my fatty foods). We have also observed that Vitamin D deficient males seem to have more prostate cancer, but the evidence that Vitamin D supplementation reduces your risk is still weak.

With this evidence, we've decided to add nutritional counselling and Vitamin supplementation to our patients' treatment schedule. You can speak to your Urologist about his feelings or we can provide you with an outline of our program. If you are local, I would prefer you come in.

The Fe/Male Health Centre
We have assembled a multidisciplinary team to help in the treatment of female patients and their partners. New therapies are being examined in a number of clinical studies and may be available to appropriate candidates. For more information, click here.

Viagra Clinicial Trials
Although Viagra is not approved for use in Canada, there is great interest in this medication. Clinical trials have been conducted, since 1995, to assess its effectiveness in treating erectile dysfunction. These clinical trials have only been done on men in the past. There is a growing interest and need to address the female issue of sexual dysfunction across many age groups. Now, there are clinical trials testing Viagra on women with sexual dysfunction. These trials will be conducted at multiple sites throughout the world for the next few years. Over the next few years we will continue to be involved in evaluating agents for females who have sexual difficulties.
